On October 10, several students in ninth and tenth grade went to the Jonesboro Public Library to hear author Ellen Hopkins speak. The students were selected based on their ACT Aspire reading scores.

Ellen Hopkins has written several fiction and nonfiction books. In her presentation, she spoke about her life and the inspiration for her writing. A few of Ellen Hopkins’s books are Impulse, Glass, Crank, and Identical.

She has a daughter who has been addicted to meth ever since she went to visit her dad when she was in high school. This was the inspiration for her book, Crank, which was the main topic of the presentation, and was available for sale.

“I really enjoyed hearing the backstory behind why she wrote the book,” Kaitlyn Ruddick said.

After the presentation was over, the students went to eat lunch, then got back at the end of sixth period.
